Description
The Endoscopic Capsule for the study of the Small Intestine is a device that contains inside a light with a camera that allows, when swallowed by the patient, the study through real images of the section of the digestive tract that runs while the exploration lasts.
The images are transmitted through the wall of the abdomen and recorded on a small portable device that the patient wears on a special belt.
The recorded images will then be downloaded to a computer for the medical specialist to study, evaluate and issue a report.
The process of preparation and ingestion of the capsule requires the patient to go to the Digestive Service fasting for 6-8 hours (after specific preparation with a diet and some sachets with evacuating action to achieve intestinal cleansing).
At the doctor’s office you will be fitted with a belt with a state-of-the-art recorder that picks up the actual images transmitted by the capsule and replaces the previous sensors attached to the skin of the abdomen and connected with wires.
The patient will be asked to swallow the Endoscopic Capsule with a little water, to remain fasting for 4 more hours and then start drinking liquids or eating a soft diet. Battery life is about 8 hours.
If the capsule is placed in the morning, the patient will be summoned in the afternoon of the same day to remove the recorder and download the images.
Finally, the Endoscopic Capsule will be eliminated through the rectum during the first week.
