Description
The exhaled hydrogen test is indicated for suspected food intolerance (lactose, fructose and sorbitol test), suspected bacterial overgrowth (lactulose or glucose test) or malabsorption (xylose test).
It consists of the basal measurement of Hydrogen in the air we breathe after the administration of a sugar (lactose, fructose, sorbitol, glucose, lactulose, xylose, etc) every 10 or 30 minutes for a period of 3 or 5 hours (depending on the sugar we are evaluating).

It is possible that during the test some patients may experience symptoms such as gas, bloating of the abdomen, or urge to have a bowel movement, which are usually mild and transitory.
