Every year, more than 7 million people in the world die from some form of cancer. More than a third of these cases could be avoided by preventing major risk factors.

Different international studies conducted over the past decade have evaluated the factors most closely linked. Smoking is the most important factor to avoid, followed by alcohol, obesity, a diet poor in fruit and vegetables, and a sedentary lifestyle.

Direct family history should also be taken into account.

Studies conclude that “prevention is much more important than medical technology, and continues to be the best way to reduce death by cancer”.
